Pre-First World War
12 - Leeds, 9 - Bradford,
5 - Hull, 4 - Sheffield FD Yates was top board in the Woodhouse Cup when we won it five times on the trot from 1911-15. He was British Champ in 1913, 14, 21, 26, 28, & 31.

Between the Wars
7 - Leeds (19 in all)
5 - Bradford (14 in all) 5 - Sheffield (10 in all) 2 - Hull (7 in all) 1 - Huddersfield Dr CG Addingley (1905-96) played for us in the Woodhouse Cup over three decades, the 1930s, 40s, 50s, &60s. winning the Silver Knight top scorer trophy six times. In his later years, he became President of the Yorkshire Chess Association. Fellow club member AG Sunderland was Secy of the YCA at the same time.
There are those who remember being driven to county matches by Dr. Addingley in what once described as the “Yorkshire Pullman”, a large car with wooden trim and chess clocks scattered across the rear parcel shelf. |
1946-1982

11 - Bradford (25 in all) 7- Sheffield (17 in all) 3 - Leeds University 2 - Hull (9 in all) 1 - Harrogate, Rotherham, Sheffield Universty, Wakefield, BT Hare (1958 - ) has played for the club in the YCA over five decades (from the 1980s to the 2020s), winning the Silver Knight twice.

1982 was the last time we won the Woodhouse Cup, although we are finally in contention again in the current 2021/22 season. Hull would dominate for the next twenty years.
